March brings with itself, a whiff of Holi colours. It is that time of the year when we are bathed in a mishmash of colours. While some run away from them, others joyfully play and get dirty. But, there is no escaping it.

Holi is unequivocally the most vibrant and colorful festival in the world. While traditionally it was celebrated with dry gulal and buckets of water, unfortunately today it comes with splashes of synthetic pigments. After effects of which not only cause discomfort to our skin, hair, eyes but also can be hazardous to our health. Perhaps why a little precaution goes a long way.

Skin Care
Smear your exposed body parts with sunscreens or oils (mustard oil, preferably). The grease and slipperiness of the oil will not allow the colours to settle dip into your skin. For ears and lips, you can use some type of petroleum jelly and lips balm respectively! Dry skin needs a bit of more attention as the pores are open wide, keeping them tinted and moisturised will do good.

Hair Care
There is no way to prevent your hair from getting wet or coloured in this frenzy. So, shampoo and condition them well on the day of the festival. Then massage your hair well with oil and tie them up in a bun. This will ensure that the scalp and hair do not absorb colours too easily. In case you have short hair, apply hair gel. Letting your hair down really helps to protect your hair and skin on Holi. Protect your hair by covering it with a scarf or bandana or some kind of headgear. Don’t take any chances with hair.

Health Care
Before get going with the festivities make sure you are healthy as a horse. Make sure you have no cuts or wounds, if you have any then band-aid those as to avoid any absorption of colours.

Nail The Celebrations
Drench your nails in olive oil so that they don’t soak up any colour. Apply thick coats of nail enamel and ensure to remove it sooner after the celebrating the day.

Sunglasses
Wearing sunglasses or glasses are the most effective way to protect your eyes from the colours. Be it organic or chemical content colours, they might cause irritation or redness or any allergy with they come in contact with our eyes. Timely, wash eyes with cold water ensuring the eyes are safe.

Dress For Fun
To enjoy the festival thoroughly, it is most important to dress right for it. Pick light coloured dresses. Make sure they are loose and cover most of your body, preventing from direct contact of any chemicals in those colours. Make sure you don’t stay in wet clothes for too long. It can lead to rashes as prolonged moisturized skin can cause rashes on your skin and your skin easily absorbs the colours making it difficult to scrub those colours of your body.

Organic Colours
The most best and reliable colours are the herbal and organic. Playing with chemically infused colour may cause skin damage but these herbal colours can be healthy for the skin. Ensure that the colours are organic and safe to play with.

Stay Hydrated
We get so engraved in the celebrations that we forget to hydrate ourselves so keep drinking water to keep your energy levels high.

We hope that these tips can be helpful for all the concern about protecting yourself from colours! May you have a safe and wonderful time.
Happy Holi!
